I know things seem pretty bleak now, but they will get better, we promise. Next page we say hello again to a very familiar figure…
An ongoing comic full of space madness, alluring danger, and bizarre alien shenanigans!
I disagree with Fitz on many things, especially the idea that human trafficking is a problem without a solution, without the possibility of victory. I believe every single person saved is a victory, even when the numbers seem so utterly staggering. Today, more than 30 million people are enslaved, a $32 billion industry that stretches across the world. An estimated 17,500 people are trafficked into the United States every year, 50 percent of them children. Organizations like Not For Sale and Coalition to Abolish Slavery and Trafficking are working to help save people and communities from exploitation.
Oh, Fitz. Why did you have to steal from those octopi? I’m afraid Fitz is in for some pretty terrible times. This is only the start. But they won’t all be terrible. There will be plenty of adventures, new friends, and chances for him to learn who he really is, and maybe become the man he wants to be.
We also wanted to mention the update schedule. The comic has been pretty regular about updating every Wednesday since we launched, but at the moment the real world is pressing against us mighty hard, for at least the next few weeks. We will always have something new to post on Wednesdays, but it’s possible that there may be a week or two coming up where we will be posting art, previews, or snippets of the script as we catch up. Thanks for all your support and understanding!
This issue we are trying something new that we hope you’ll enjoy. From here on out, the comics will be a blend of hand painted scenes and digital illustrations! It’s always been our intention to experiment with new art styles, and we hope you enjoy artistic evolution of the comic.
We’re also featuring a special guest cameo on this page! You might notice Lourdes d’Ki Michi from The Dracko Universe graphic novel tending bar in the second panel. The kind and talented C.A. Morgan was sweet enough to provide us with some lovely guest art last month and so we wanted to extend our gratitude. Want to see you or your character in a cameo in this issue? Just send us some guest art!
Fitz is definitely in trouble now! Crimson comes from a very harsh world, which we’ll be exploring throughout this issue. Where we come from can define who we are, but so do all the experiences we go through once we leave. I adore Fitz, not just for who he is, but who he will become as he struggles through the mad journey ahead.
We are incredibly happy to begin sharing the madness that is issue 3. We’ll be introducing characters who’s actions will play a major role in upcoming story lines, and we’ll learn more about someone we haven’t seen for a long time. What we are most excited about is the chance to delve into the darker corners of this universe, and to explore Fitz, the very human, very flawed, generally average 21st century guy who is in for more trouble than he ever imagined.
Please check out the Terrible Things playlist for some serious audio spoilers. When we’re putting together the comic, we use music to set the tone of each scene. In fact, during the scripting process, we actually use songs as audio storyboards to help put the story together, so each page has its own corresponding soundtrack. Does this music put any ideas in your head, preparing you for what’s to come?
We’ve got some great news! Starting next Wednesday, we will start posting issue 3! Very excited about launching this issue. Lots of madness ahead, plenty of tragedy, and some exciting new characters, one of who will go on to play a major role in future issues, as well as the return of one of my absolute favorite characters from issue 1. In the meantime, enjoy this sneak peak of life on Dystera…
Sneak peak of the cover!
This is just a little prelude to the full color version. We’re done with the cover and have moved on to finishing the next couple pages! How very exciting. Just building up a little buffer, but we expect to start posting issue 3 for your reading enjoyment within the next couple weeks.
We are proud to share this beautifully vicious guest art from the very talented Joseph Garcia! Please go check out his fabulous work. I just love the expression on Crimson’s face here. Perfectly cold and amused.
The start of the next issue has taken us a little bit longer than we has hoped due to the unfortunate vagaries of adult life, but there has been some great progress and we’ll be posting new comics again very soon. Thank you for all the support!
We are so happy to share this drop dead gorgeous guest art by the incredibly talented C. A. Morgan of The Dracko Universe Graphic Novel. This is absolutely how I imagine Crimson would look like, if only she was a real girl instead of an adorable cartoon.
In other news, Free Comic Book Day was quite a success! We’d like to thank everybody who picked up a free copy of the prologue at Tate’s Comics and The Trouble with Girls All-Female Art Revue. We gave away our entire stash, but we reserved a handful of signed copies still for sale at our online store. Order yours now, before they’re all gone!
We’ll be back in a few weeks with Issue 3: Terrible Things. In the meantime, we’re still looking for guest comics. Send us your art for a chance to see you or your character make a cameo in the next issue.
